Inner city living stretches to the suburbs

Medium-density housing is moving into the suburbs that are traditionally the domain of the house on the quarter acre block. In an article on The Fifth Estate recently, it was reported that suburbs like Penrith were soon to experience inner city living with medium-density housing being planned for sites close to public transport.

Strata managers in Sydney’s west are likely to experience some growth as a result of the plans by various property developers to build apartments, retail and commercial space.

The prime example is the new suburb of Thornton (not to be confused with Thornton near Maitland) located in North Penrith, which is reportedly being developed with 450 residential apartments and 550 square metres of retail and commercial space.

The reality is our infrastructure can no longer continue to stretch forever and planners need to find ways to contain the urban sprawl. Of course the strata industry knows that the best way to do this is with properly planned medium-density housing that is supported with the proper amenities and public transport.

Here is more information on the Thornton development.
