Updates – Residential Tenancies review, Sydney Light Rail

tenanciesHave your say on the Residential Tenancies Act

Tenants and landlords are being encouraged to have their say on a statutory review of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said a discussion paper and survey are available for comment on the Fair Trading website.

“Whether you’re a renter or a landlord everyone needs residential tenancy laws that are balanced, modern and flexible,” said Mr Stowe.

“Over 800,000 NSW households live in rental properties and it is important that the state’s tenancy laws are working as intended.

“The discussion paper looks at different stages and types of residential tenancy issues including sub-letting and dispute resolution mechanisms.”

Submissions on the discussion paper can be made until 29 January 2016. Community consultation will continue throughout this period, including with key industry groups.

Social housing tenancies are not within the scope of this review as the NSW Government is working towards reforming social housing through other processes.

To access the discussion paper and make a submission visit www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au.
