SCA (NSW) statement on The Strata Agency

Strata Community Australia (NSW) President Greg Haywood would like to make the following statement in relation to the prosecution and sentencing yesterday of Rachael Jena Kwawegen former principal of The Strata Agency:

“SCA (NSW) wishes to express its concern at the actions of Ms Kwawegen and is grateful that there are processes in place by NSW Fair Trading to protect the interests of the consumers who were affected by her actions.

“Ms Kwawegen was not a financial member of SCA (NSW) and as such was not subject to our Code of Ethics. If she had she is likely to have also faced a potential expulsion from our organisation.

“SCA (NSW) encourages all owners corporations to ensure that the strata managing agent they engage is a member of our organisation as this means they undertake ongoing education and training, adhere to the highest ethical standards of conduct and work to best practice.

“We also run accreditation programs so that consumers can be assured their strata managing agent has the right qualifications to help administer their strata scheme and work in their best interests.”
