Meet the 2017 Recognition Award winner: Adrian Carr

The Recognition Award is presented to a person who shows great enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to the strata industry. A very worthy recipient is Dr Adrian Carr who has a depth of knowledge of the strata industry that is second to none. He shares this knowledge by giving his time on the all important Policy and Legislative committee.

For those who don’t know, Adrian is Licensee-In-Charge (PICA and Body Corporate Services Strata Management Pty Ltd, NSW) and Manager of Regulation (PICA group) and has been with the company for nine years.

He was thrilled to receive the award, “I understand it is a new award for the SCA (NSW) and I was thrilled to receive such recognition”.

“Working in PICA, because it is a large strata company, provides an enhanced level of exposure to legislative and policy issues as well as an engagement with a large and diverse customer base. Being able to draw upon such experience enhances the contribution value employees of the company can make to industry bodies such as SCA (NSW).”

Adrian explained that the Recognition Award was largely related to work he did in assisting the drafting of submissions and participating in round-table discussions on the new strata legislation.

“That work is still on-going as we are making representations regarding identifying to government the detrimental unintended consequences of the new legislation,” he said.

“My work is with the Policy and Legislative committee, which has a large agenda for 2018. Amongst the issues we will be working on are cladding, potential changes to fire protection provisions in strata, changes to licensing, and new legislation for community associations.”

When asked how receiving the award affected him, Adrian said that having worked almost 15 years for a trade union, he has a keen sense of the importance of collective effort.

“SCA (NSW) is an important organisation for our whole industry and we need to not only support it but get involved.”

“I am hopeful that these awards will encourage further industry participation and contribute to the upskilling and professionalisation of the industry.”

SCA (NSW) President Chris Duggan also praised the work that Adrian has contributed to the organisation and the industry as a whole.

“There are a number of things that stand out about Adrian but the thing I have noticed is his passion for ensuring drafting anomalies in the legislation are brought to the government’s attention. This ultimately ensures government is kept on its toes but also that government takes us as industry seriously as we are not afraid to stand up and get things right,” Chris concluded.
