Ian McKnight – 40 years and going strong

Ian_2324We all start our legal careers (or any career) in many different ways, with stars in our eyes and excitement in our step.

The law (and strata) is a funny thing, you love it and hate it all at the same time.  You leave it and come back to it wondering why you ever left (and then generally want to leave again!).

Well on Thursday 5th February 2015 our Ian McKnight celebrated 40 years as a legal practitioner.  At the spritely age of something just over 60 Ian has seen it all in his career.  Starting it with the Crown Solicitors in 1975 Ian has owned strata businesses, been in practice as a lawyer and is currently our Strata & Property Partner at Grace Lawyers.

He has specialised in strata and property for his entire career.  Why you may ask? – He loves it and he makes everyone around him love it also.  Those by-laws, management statements, community schemes and the delights of Court/Tribunal appearances are what make Ian tick.

Anyone who has dealt with Ian gets the excitement in his voice, the give it a go attitude and the knowledge and confidence that only someone with that much experience can bring to the table.

Ian’s passions outside of law are tennis (which he must leave every Thursday night early for otherwise there is hell to pay) and swimming (which he does every morning with his best effort being 218 days in a row).  As usual Ian was at the pool on 5th at 6am pounding out his regular 1 km morning swim (see photo) under the close eye of his sister Alison counting the beat. 20150205_061026_resized

I along with everyone at Grace Lawyers congratulate Ian on reaching this milestone that many never reach regardless of their chosen profession.  Let us look towards the following years with the same excitement as when we first started and we all look forward to the McKnight chronicles.
