SCA (NSW) President’s update – Strata Law changes delayed

President’s Update: Strata Law changes delayed

SCA (NSW) has been lobbying the NSW Government to delay the introduction of the new strata laws to give the sector time to update its processes and procedures; to train staff and to educate owners corporations on changes to their obligations.

We understand, according to an article on 26 February in the Australian Financial Review by Jimmy Thomson, that the Minister has agreed to delay the start date of the new laws. Mr Thomson states in the article that they are unlikely to come into force until after September.

We are aware that there are delays in drafting the new Regulations and that this is a contributing factor in the government’s decision.

The draft Regulations are potentially due at the end of March. SCA (NSW) eagerly awaits the draft so that we can circulate to members and provide the government with feedback. Members will be given an opportunity to contribute to our response to government.

SCA (NSW) continues to work with the NSW Government and pursue the best possible solutions for members – owners, services and managers.
