Topic Overview
This session explores how Principals can approach the identification, consultation and ongoing management of employees experiencing mental health issues whilst observing relevant employment law considerations. From an employer’s perspective, the management of mental health issues in the workplace can present a significant challenge – balancing empathy and consideration for individuals with the commercial need to mitigate impacts on colleagues and customers and ensure service continuity.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will gain an understanding of:
- Mental health vs mental illness
- Managing stress leave and ongoing absences
- Managing performance issues when an employee has declared stress or other mental health complications
- Independent medical examinations and fitness for work
- Workers compensation considerations
- Termination of employment
Assessment Delivery and Certificates
