Topic Overview
This session will detail the basics of trust accounting including: the requirements for accounts pursuant to the Act, interpreting the balance sheet and key financial statements, dealing with GST and how to present financials to an Owners Corporation or Association.
A large part of a Strata Manager’s role is to manage the finances on behalf of their clients, equally, explaining the finances to owners requires skill. A demonstration of how to present an annual financial report will be part of this session, attendees will be able to take away key learnings to apply in their own role.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will gain an understanding of:
- How to interpret key financial reports that Strata Schemes and Associations must keep pursuant to Sections 92 and 99 of the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015 and Schedule 1, Part 4 of the Community Land Management Act 1989
- GST for Schemes and Associations, including what the threshold is for GST registration
- How to explain GST to clients
